Liquor Store Dream

As my eyes opened, I realized the room I had hurried out of was the same one I was in. I'd been half awake while sitting on the bed with my dead father, who was asking me why I had stolen that carton of cigarettes from Jake's Liquor Store. There was no way out now.

55 Comments:
am pleased to have taken a ride through your blog as well. ( next time you go zipping though Jake's- grab a bottle of rum along with the smokes.)
It's like Hotel California! :-)
Doriandra
I've already got the rum and ciggies---yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me....arghh!
geetanjali
Yes, and remodelled with structural supports from the Overlook Hotel.
And pour me one as well! This one's a teaser - am left waiting to know what could happen next. I love the anticipation!
Am so glad you had fun doing this. Thanks very much for indulging the tag! :)
could relate to the inevitability of it all, and liked ur writings alot, after all its finnegan's wake, diddille doodlely dum
- Here Comes Everyman
Trapped in a dream with no way out. Now that's horrifying stuff. For some reason your terseness alone is frightening. Extremely poignant!
perhaps with our participation in reading your dreams, the messages in your dreams become our messages too...
perhaps that which i hastened to let go of is the same thing i reach for now...
P.S. - Definitely loving the Blogroll! Thank you.
extempore
I sort of broke from tradition by responding to this tag on this site.
But, I could not resist the number 55!
ubermensch
Thanks for the loopy-go-lucky comment Ubermensch.
queen neetee
The terseness was "tag imposed", as it was limited to 55 words. I got "tagged" by Extempore, and started poring through my dream notes (I post only about a third of what I write down).
I find it interesting that the image becomes much more dominant in the overall impact with fewer words.
feminine expressions
Your first observation is a very astute ; one that I've thought about often since starting this.
The second comment hints at S&M pleasure. We've all got that in us to varying degrees.
The dream stage allows our inner zoo creatures to rumble.
WF = FDDXLF An abbreviation signifying that the Fed Ex elf has arrived.
Dreaming of your current position must be rather eerie. I think there is no way out because hurrying away simply brings you back where you started.
Less is definitely more Finn, I try to pare away enough words to reduce the sauce to a concentrate while not leaving out any vital ingredient. I see you did that with remarkable brevity here.
My new button has been duly noted and approved! Blue sky is cheerful. Your single word reference to the Overlook conjured vivid memories for me as I bet you can imagine.
are you sure that's your father? looks more like a geezer i used to work with. he used to make the tea. trouble was he shook so much that both he and the china would clatter and jingle and smash on the floor. bones and bits of poreclain and as hard as i used to try i just coudn't get no sleep.
tea was crap too.
his name, coincidentally, was just the same as your word verification rahdh. funny that.
god this has the fear of dads, of being caught doing two wrongs at that....wow, loaded with guilt.
Virgo
The brevity was inspired by (what else?) another tag; this one hailing from extempore. The '55 limit had me thinking about the great Chevy from that year which has surfaced in my dreams from time to time---that I might try to bring it into the driveway for this. But I thought it too cute and so nixed the idea.
Glad you approve of the new banner with your floating emblem in the sky. By the way, I stole the sky from your own cross- vapored photo.
And let's not overlook the Red Rum.
Cocaine Jesus
His name is Vincent. It's a self-portrait that Van Gogh made during his leaner days when he existed on Absinthe, fags and cheap hookers.
This one has got a name too. "LEIKM". Like him?
Gulnaz
Your comment came in as I was publishing my remarks to P.V. and C.J....how'd you manage that?
My biological father was mostly only that---except for the terror he'd cause whenever he appeared. I believe my nightmares began in earnest with him.
Now that its abt fathers, i see u as kafka here?
uber
ubermensch
I'm old enough to be Kafka's father actually. But I certainly get your connection!
its crazy how ppl hurt their own children!!!!
Wow - that was an odd one. Amazing, or is it?, that the inclusion of one word: 'dead' takes a simple, everyday paragraph on life into a surreal, haunting, thought-provoking piece.
Unlike other posts (of which I'm a huge fan anyway), this one shouts from the rooftops just how powerful simplicity and subtlety are.
gulnaz
Yes, and go on to hurt one another. It starts at home, just like my mother always said.
rukSak
....Wow, that's indeed praise coming from you.
It's seems paradoxical that we need words to convey ideas yet often need to get rid of them for essence. It's like what Virgo said about preparing a sauce....sniff sniff...what's that I smell burning?
Neetee
Your welcome Neetee. I just realized that I've spelled your name incorrectly on your banner. Doh!!!
No matter the mistake, I'm still extremely pleased.
What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
Willyam Shakespeer ;)
a friend of mine once dreamt he was about to masturbate and he was trying to get his dead father out of the room so he could do so privately. i forget the next thing that happened. i know he told me, but i could have blocked it out. but that was a powerful dream, finn.

Netee
I wrote "Your welcome" in my last comment to you. I've got misspellitis.
But since you are a queen, "Your welcome" can be viewed as "Your Welcomeness".
"Your Neeteeness" or something.
So should I leave it? Maybe it's a good blemish. Everyone seems to think briefer is better.
eww my Dad is dead... creeped me out...
i do 'like' him. i also love trans double masturbation comment about dead dads.
gulanz says it is sad when parents hurt kids. mine beat me up regularly using tin foil tubes and methane cannisters. bruises everywhere.
oh dem bones dem bones dem dry bones...hey...lookyy???(WV)
trans (original®}
It would have been even ookier if your friend had caught his father in hiding.

Nothing more disturbing than the dead playing with your mind---especially when
it's a relative or a close friend.
cocaine jesus
Foil tubes and methane canisters? Ouch! Those are lifetime bruises, C.J.
I guess most have got their own father stories to tell. Mine left me to fill a lot
in myself, and so I do.
WV = EMBPUEBS = Embryonic pubes
Thankyou for my place on the blogroll Finnegan, I shall try to avert my eyes from upward glances! Glad you liked the wolf story too :-)
sorry if i trod on old wounds mate.not my intention honest.
my pubes have long past the embryonic stage and i won't tell you why my kids call me badger.
you know i love you and so does you WV = lykyocoi (lick you come. over. instantly.???) on second thoughts forget that i'm out tonight.
Thanks for putting my problem in perspective. I now realize that I really have no reason to bitch. Nice blog by the way.
grace
You are welcome. Your site looks a whole lot snazzier by the way.
CocAinE JeSuS
You've got this 1000 year old egg head itching to know why you're called Badger. Please tell all! Or maybe not. Will it make me distraught?
Oops, I meant Embryonic PUBS. You are on something tonight Jesus. Can I have whatever it is?
This V.W. is self-explanatory NUMREF
Courtney Paige
I was pulling your leg. I saw your remarks over at Pica's tasty site and thought I'd have a little fun with your post. I'm not really a female. (God, I'm getting worse than C.J.)
Love the picture, I have strange dreams, at least the ones I remember are strange
This paragraph is like novel. I love the picture.
My goodness Finnegan.
First time I'm here and what a post to come to.
Fantastic.
I'm so glad I came.
sue hardy-dawson
Maybe the ones you remember need to be written.
rhein
You can praise Van Gogh. It's not him, but he painted it.
melly
So glad you stopped by. Come by again.
Is that really by Van Gogh? Somehow never really liked his work except for his revelatory self-potraits...
your words and the picture (as always) suit each other perfectly...and more so in this particular case...there is a lot more to this dream than meets the eye...
finn - Actually, I didn't even catch the 'your welcome'. My misspelling of W.S.'s name was to do with Netee. How funny!
Now, as far as 'Netee'...leave it. I like it. If fine by you, It will be accepted as a special endearing blemish. Thanks for asking.
I liked this one!
Lots of interpretations here. Especially with the picture you posted along with it.
A good 55!
:-)
criuoser and murkier
my dead dad pops up a lot in words
and dreams
but last night i dreamt about
putting a silicone seal around the toilet
(no that's not like a walrus implant)
oh tell me mr finnegan
(be you asleep or waking)
i do not understand my dreams
what sense can they be making
cheers :)
P.S. of course it's not a typo - it's a subtle representation of my confused state of mind!
Fathers and sons..
Mothers and goddesses..
Men and women..
Why isn't anything ever simple?
Did you chk ur pic on Cocaine jesus's blog ???
Sorry ! That's me...( anonymous)
I feel anxious, cliff-hung, and provoked in thought all at the same time. I will go back to work this way, knowing that all rooms are the same.
Dreaming a bout anything is scary, dreaming about anything dead is horrifying.
Do fathers ever stop punishing us for our transgressions?
might just do that
hey finn...just stopped by to say hi
Ha! Oh my...!
I love this one. Short but packed with a wallop. The opening sentence is mysifying. I could read it again and again. It reminds me of when I was young and first put a mirror up to reflect another mirror. I caught my first glimpse of a possibile infinity. The whole meaning of this dream is so clear. The painting is so fitting, but the writing truly needs no visual backup. Like great music needs no video.
what an adventure! intriguing and unexpected.
anil
His self portrait here is revelatory in the extreme I guess.
Thanks for your "eye ronic" comment!
queen neetee
Not a blemish, but more like a beauty mark. You are a queen, no?
.:a:.
Thanks, and likewise with your 55's.
floots
Now the criouser is the toilet seal and walruses implants...? I'm certain even with all your word-smything you've never juxtaposed those two. criouser indeed.
floots again I knew you couldn't have mangled the letter-soup unintentionally. You've got too much floots in your loops.
pincushion
Simple is only for little children and kittens. Only problem is that they grow up to be adults and cats.

Not yet Rusty Anonymous, but I'll be right over.

Great comment...bad idea!
Alice: In Wonderland or Not
It's even worse when the dead say things to disrupt you in your dreams, continuing to haunt you when you wake.
Patry Francis
All fathers aren't so bad. Mine was.
sue hardy-dawson
I thinks you'd be amazed at what you can mine. It just takes a bit of discipline.
gulnaz
Hi there gulnaz!
yemanja
"Oh my"...what? Sounds like you hurt your ______ mid-sentence.
Bouls
Oh, I love that mirror mirror double vanity looping. Reflections doubled and getting shattered into infinity.
The conundrum that disturbs and delights me is the one where you divide the space between yourself and a wall in half, and again and again ad infinitum....till we rub our heads after bumping into it.
Stella
You don't know the half of it.
V.W. = AFKIFD "After getting fully kiffed, you are AFKIFT"
Finn - when are we getting our weekly fix? I'm getting the shakes here.
Weakly is more like it Ruk. I'm just back from from Paris---or having dreamt so. Will be posting one from last night's cartoon.
Delirium tremens can be soothed with a bit of roach butter on sourdough toast, along with a good Earl Grey straight up.
big fin, big fin, won't you come out to play. paris was cold and london is grey. all my dreams have faded since you went away.
big fin, big fin, won't you come out to play.
